Robert W. Nashwinter, formerly of Niagara Falls, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Medina. He was 103. He was born in Myersdale, Pennsylvania on May 3, 1909, a son of William and Margaret (Folmar) Nashwinter. He married Lovenia Carrie in 1929 and they remained happily married for 66 years until her passing in 1994.
Mr. Nashwinter moved to Niagara Falls in 1937 and worked for Autolite until he was drafted into the military, serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After his honorable discharge he operated Bobís Service Station before going to work for Sears for 14 years. He then owned Allport Flower Shop on Buffalo Avenue until his retirement.
Mr. Nashwinter was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Wheatfield Legion Post 1451 and the United Senior Citizens. He was a dedicated worker who loved to help people. He also enjoyed trips to the Casino.
He is survived by his son Gary (Marie) Nashwinter of Cape Coral, Florida; 3 grandchildren, Tammy DiNieri of Phoenix, AZ, Billy Nashwinter of Colorado and Terry Nashwinter of Florida; 4 great-grandchildren; Anthony, Timmy, Lily and Nicolena. He is also survived by his special nephew Jim (Hattie) Nashwinter, and his brother Francis (late Erna) Nashwinter . He was predeceased by siblings Paul, Lawrence and Harold Nashwinter and Lucy Raymond and Regina Records.
There will be no prior visitation. Services will be held on Wednesday at 10 A.M. at Prince of Peace Church 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Town of Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orleans County Hospice 14080 Route 31 West, P.O. Box 489 Albion, NY 14411.
