Biography
Norman “Pete” E. Forney, Jr., of Cheektowaga, formerly of Niagara Falls and the Town of Niagara, died on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in Erie County Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Baghdad, PA on October 31, 1942 a son of the late Norman Ellsworth and Betty Elizabeth (Gray) Forney, Sr. He attended Pennsylvania schools, later serving in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1962.
Mr. Forney was employed as a truck driver for over 30 years and retired from CRS Trucking in 1994 due to disability.
He was a member of the Center for Independent Living and served on its board. He was an advocate for rights for disabled Americans. He was especially close to his family and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy Diane (Aughtman) Forney in 2008. Survivors include five children, Sheila (Michael) Chille of Niagara Falls; Norman “Skip” (Beverly) Forney, III of Lewiston, NY; Kelli (Kevin) Carpenter of Niagara Falls; Micki (Scott) Ranney of Tonawanda and Elizabeth (Eric) Lennert of Lyons, CO; two brothers, James (Dodie) Forney of LasVegas and Kenneth Samuel (Doris) Forney of Levitttown, PA; thirteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 PM with the Rev. Ronald Maines officiating. Interment will be private.
